National Geographic to the rescue
I have been telling my grown children for years that they need to be prepared.... They don't do it... I have been telling my daughter and son-in-law about the possibility of a huge solar flare that could knock out our grid. They say they believe me but don't really act like it... This months edition of National Geographic helped me out. There is a huge article about the Carrington event of 1859 and what it did and the comparison of what a similiar event would do to us now...
We would be thrust into the pre-electric age in a matter of seconds.... No TV, no Cell Phones, No lights, No modern cars... NOTHING WOULD WORK... It could take years to completely restore the grid.
Could you survive without electricity for a year?????
Pick up this months copy and read the article for yourself... It is a scary thought...
Time to go buy more candles...

Those pressure canners work on a wood cookstove or a grate on an open fire! Freezers won't work. I need to buy enough jars and Tattlers to put up what is in the freezers should something like this happen. It makes my head spin sometimes at how much there is to prepare for. I would hate to lose any of it. I plan to put some of the beef, pork and bacon up by canning them this winter. We can put another half a steer in the deep freezer next spring when our friend that raises no hormone, grass fed beef has one available.
ReplyDeleteMy next big ticket item is more Tattlers. I have 500, bought half wide , half regular. I think I need 1000 more, but I will need to buy them in stages. Hoping someone puts some jars up for sale cheap soon.
Like you, I keep putting this information out for my kids, who all seem to take it seriously but their time is eaten up by working two jobs, or being the sole supporter for a family of four, or the step daughter that thinks it's not Christian to be prepared...
